A pair of European subject plates “Le Bain” after Duflos. China, Qianlong
The plates are decorated in famille rose enamels and grisaille, the central medallion, framed by a border in the Meissen style, depicting Le Bain, after the engraving by Claude Duflos (1665–1727).
This model is known in several variants within the coloured palette: in puce enamels (Hervouët, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à décor occidental, 1986, p. 124, no. 6.28) and in grisaille with a shell border on the rim (Santos, Yuan to Qing Ceramics, 2016/2017, cat. 71).
This example is a rare version, particularly well painted, combining the techniques of grisaille and famille rose enamels, and distinguished by the quality of its execution.
