A figure of a Dutchman with a monkey. Kangxi

Among the more engaging Western-style figures to be produced in Dehua is this porcelain model of a Dutchman seated on a fabric-draped platform decorated with birds and flowers. Enticed by a banana held in the man’s left hand, a monkey climbs up the sitter’s right leg.  

An unusual Chinese Imari barber basin. Kangxi

The rounded basin finely enameled in the Imari palette with four cartouches enclosing sprays of flowers on the flat rim with a treillis ground.  The center of the barber basin is decorated with an official and his attendant in a garden.

Two Chinese biscuit libation cups. Kangxi

In the form of an oval bowl with slightly tapering sides and a broad pouring lip. The rectangular handle is supported by two chilong dragons applied one on either side and another two dragons are applied under the lip. They are each decorated in aubergine enamels, and blue sacrificial.

An unusual Chinese famille verte teapot. Kangxi

The teapot is decorated in the famille verte palette, with flower sprigs done in underglaze blue iron red and green enamels. The spout, handle and decorative pattern in relief on the body of this very unusual teapot are modeled as ropes, painted in aubergine enamels.

A very fine pair of biscuit Buddhist lions. China, Kangxi

The Buddhist lions are decorated in famille verte enamels on the biscuit, each seated on a large plinth. The male lion has a brocade ball at its feet, while the female lion is accompanied by a lion cub. Both lions have stick holders on their backs.
