GALERIE NICOLAS FOURNERY

A Porcelana Chinesa ao Tempo do Império / Chinese Porcelain at the Time of the Empire

Par Nuno de Castro
Parution: 2007

Nuno de Castro offers his readers an extensive survey of Portuguese and Brazilian coat of arms painted on Chinese porcelain, dating from the 16th up to the 19th century. This book updates an earlier version, providing the reader with additional information and examples regarding Portuguese armorial porcelain. It was the first book to be written on Chinese armorial porcelain for the Portuguese market and prompted many others to further their research on this subject. The book begins with a chronology of dynasties and period, followed by a map showing the main porcelain production centres in China and an introduction focusing on the contacts between the Europeans and the Chinese. The catalogue is divided by dynasties, each with innumerous pieces that are illustrated, described, and sometimes includes supporting images and details. The book ends with an index, followed by a biography of the author and an extensive bibliography
