This service was probably made for George Baillie of Jerviswood and Mellerstain, descendant from the ancient family of Baillie of St. John’s Kirk. He had no sons and his daughter and heir, Rachel, married Charles, Lord Binning, whose second son George Hamilton took the name and arms of Baillie of Jerviswood (his eldest son, George Baillie, later Jerviswood, was born in 1763 and married the youngest daughter of Sir James Pringle).
