Of globular form, with the concave fluted moulded panels on the cover matched on the base, which has applied aquatic plants. Decorated in famille rose enamels, with a boy on a water buffalo in a landscape, with flowers and rockwork above the fluting.

The period 1730 to 1740 saw a considerable number of such shaped teapots, with finely painted cups and saucers, sometimes with similar bases. They were not mass produced but individual services which would have been chosen from stock in China shops in Canton. It is likely that many were destined only for display in china cabinets, and surviving pieces are frequently in excellent condition.
