A pair of Chinese libation cups decorated in famille verte enamels on the biscuit. Kangxi period.

After an archaic bronze form, each applied with a handle flanked by chilong dragons, two further green dragons on the underside of the mouth, all on a famille verte simulated bronze ground.

The shape of these libation cups derives from early Chinese bronzes and is known in several different variations. Some examples of libation cups were recorded in the Dresden inventory of 1721 as “coffee pots”.
