Of octagonal form, the two dishes are decorated in the famille rose palette with a cockerel standing on a pierced blue rock, amidst luxuriant pink peonies in full bloom and leafy branches. Scattered flowers enliven the foreground, while a butterfly in flight completes the composition. The central scene is framed by two fine iron-red lines. The broad rim is richly decorated with stylised flowers in shades of pink, blue, yellow and white, interspersed with green leafy stems, all reserved against a dense herring-roe ground. A fine gilt line outlines the octagonal rim.
