Of hexagonal form with flaring sides, they are decorated in a vibrant palette dominated by varying shades of green, yellow and aubergine. The first is centred with a conch shell, set against a green ground entirely covered with concentric spirals and surrounded by prunus blossoms and foliate motifs. The sides repeat the same pattern of green spirals, enlivened with flowers and white reserves, while the rim is bordered by a band of stylised scrolling foliage. The second is centred, against a yellow ground, with an arrangement of precious objects and antiquities (bogu), including vases, vessels, a qilin and various scholars’ objects. The well is framed by a broad plain green band, while the rim is decorated with prunus blossoms.
